Ownership

It’s important to know who owns which media organisation in each of the media centres. The structure of ownership will have some influence over the kind of material that organisation produces.

There are 2 different types of ownership in the media industry
Public ownership
-Private ownership

Public Ownership
BBC is publicly owned in the UK and includes both TV and Radio. The BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/) is funded by the public paying a licence fee, which is $145.50p/a. a part of the agreement with the government is that they have to give the target audience what they would want. The advantages are that you don’t have to get advertisers to buy advertising on their show. The disadvantages is that if you are public own company you don’t have as much money as other companies. One of the disadvantages is that they have to do what the public want when something goes wrong.
